Inspired by photographs of Long Island City taken and collected by the artist
and students respectively, Harumi Ori with Information Technology Students
collaborated to make 3-dimensional replicas, abstract objects and LIC emblems
out of a fluorescent orange industrial mesh – a sacred color in Ori’s native
Japan. The installation highlights LIC’s mixed-use infrastructure, vibrant cultural
diversity, and the heterogeneous experiences of local community members,
public servants and business and property owners.

“I am Here...” is a project under the Long Island City Partnership’s
LIC Arts Connection program, an innovative, multi-site community arts initiative
that builds non-traditional partnerships between public and private owners,
local businesses, employees, students, residents, and artists.

Special thanks to New York State Council on the Arts under Governor Andrew M.
Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative for their support in
executing this project.
